About Alken
Alken is a municipality located in Belgian province of Limburg. The community lies just south of the provincial capital of Hasselt, in the Hesbaye area. Alken has about 11,300 residents, which gives the village a bigger populace than the nearby small towns of Borgloon and Herk-de-Stad. Alken appeared for the first time in history in 1066 under the call Alleche. Since 1180, the reliable call of the municipality is Alken however 'Alleke' remains often utilized by locals. Alken become an enclave of the Bishopric of Liege surrounded by the county of Loon.
Many Prince Bishops had a summer time residence right here. The municipality has no districts. But has three village centers or fundamental neighborhoods. Alken-Centre, Sint-Joris and Terkoest. Alken-Centre is positioned in the east of the municipality, neighboring Hasselt and Wellen. The parish is devoted to St. Aldegondis and it is the oldest parish in Alken. The town hall, the CPAS, maximum stores and institutions are located here.
