Eagle Farm

Eagle Farm is a generally modern suburb of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia, arranged around 6 kilometers north-east of the Brisbane focal business area. It is the previous site of Eagle Farm Airport, which filled in as Brisbane's principle airplane terminal until the opening of the Brisbane Airport in 1988. Eagle Farm was likewise the site of the neglected Eagle Farm railroad station. The region of Whinstanes is situated in Eagle Farm.

Eagle Farm is inside the mechanical improvement zone known as Australia TradeCoast. Eagle Farm Racecourse, home of the Queensland Turf Club QTC and the fundamental racecourse for pure blood gallopers in Brisbane, is situated in close-by Ascot. Eagle Farm originally showed up as a name in 1839, recognizing a development territory in convict period Brisbane. In 1829 Captain Patrick Logan, picked this all around watered, prolific site between the Brisbane River and Serpentine Creek to farm generally maize, pigs and dairy cattle.

The source of the name evidently emerged from eagles being seen around the farm. By 1834 ladies detainees were filling in as field work at Eagle Farm. By 1836 forty female detainees were housed there, washing and patching garments, developing vegetables. The site remained a jail for twice sentenced female criminals until the point that transportation finished in 1839. Conditions for the females at the jail were reported by the Quaker preacher Backhouse in 1836.
