Po Nagar

Po Nagar is a Cham temple tower set up sooner or later before 781 C.E. in addition, arranged in the medieval domain of Kauthara, close present day Nha Trang in Vietnam. The goddess of the country, who came to be identified with the Hindu goddesses Bhagavati and Mahishasuramardini, and who in Vietnamese is called Thien Y Thanh Mau.

The Po Nagar complex is orchestrated on Cu Lao Mountain. It includes three levels, the most amazing of which fuses two sections of towers. The principal zenith is around 25 m high. Durga, the slayer of the buffalo malicious soul, is addressed on the pediment over the entry to the asylum.

The haven's central picture is a 1.2m tall stone statue of the goddess Yan Po Nagar sitting leg over leg, dressed just in a skirt, with ten hands holding diverse agent things. As showed by Vietnamese analyst Ngo Van Doanh, these attributes exhibit that Yan Po Nagar was recognized moreover with the Hindu goddess Mahishasuramardini or Durga, the slayer of the wild bull fiendish nearness.

Another model of the goddess as Mahishasuramardini may be found in the pediment over the section to the haven: it outlines the four-outfitted goddess holding a hatchet, a lotus and a club, and staying on a wild bull. This model has a place with the Tra Kieu style of Cham craftsmanship from the complete of the tenth century or the beginning of the eleventh century.
