About Nukus Museum of Art

Nukus Museum of Art or, in complete, The State Art Museum of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, named when I.V. Savitsky is an artwork museum based totally in Nukus, Uzbekistan. Opened in 1966, the museum houses a set of over 82,000 gadgets, starting from antiquities from Khorezm to Karakalpak folks art, Uzbek first-rate artwork and, uniquely, the second largest collection of Russian avant-garde within the world. The museum represents the lifestyles’s paintings of Igor Savitsky, whose legacy, which incorporates lots of creative and cultural treasures on everlasting exhibition, make this building one of the most thrilling repositories of historic and current art.
The Russian painter, archeologist and collector, Igor Savitsky, first visited Karakalpakstan in 1950 to participate in the Khorezm Archeological & Ethnographic Expedition and later moved to Nukus, Karakalpakstan’s capital, and endured dwelling there until his loss of life in Moscow in 1984. During 1957-66, he assembled an in depth collection of Karakalpak jewellery, carpets, coins, apparel and different artifacts, satisfied the government of the need for a museum and, following its status quo, become appointed its curator in 1966.
