The Yellowstone River Watershed is a stream bowl situated in North Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana. The Yellowstone Basin Watershed contains an arrangement of waterways, including the Yellowstone River, and four tributary bowls: the Clarks Fork Yellowstone, Wind River and Bighorn River, Tongue River, and Powder River. These waterways frame tributaries to the Missouri River.
The mainstem of the Yellowstone River is in excess of 700 miles in length. At the headwaters, rises surpass 12,800 feet above ocean level and slides to 1,850 feet at the intersection with the Missouri River in North Dakota. The watershed traverses 34,167 square miles. The zone contains numerous lakes, including Yellowstone Lake. There are no capacity dams situated on the mainstem of the Yellowstone River.
