It was the origination and youth home of William Howard Taft, the 27th President of the United States and the tenth Chief Justice of the United States. William Howard Taft National Historic Site situated in the Mount Auburn Historic District of Cincinnati, Ohio, a mile 1.6 km north of Downtown.
The two-story Greek revival house, fabricated around 1835, is an indication of the exquisite period when wealthier individuals here could get away from the soil, warmth, smoke and swarmed states of the lower city. Guests included numerous neighborhood and state dignitaries, including future President James A. Garfield. Carpets in the parlor were regularly moved up for moving. Family exercises occurred in the library; Alphonso was an eager book gatherer.
