Willamette Falls
About Willamette Falls
The Willamette Falls is a characteristic cascade on the Willamette River between Oregon or City and West Linn, Oregon, in the USA. It is the biggest waterfall in the American Pacific Northwest by volume, and the seventeenth most extensive on the planet. Horseshoe fit as a fiddle, it is 1,500 feet 460 m wide and 40 feet 12 m high with a stream of 30,849 cu ft/s 874 m³/s, found 26 miles 42 km upriver from the Willamette's mouth.Until 2011 a waterway and set of locks enabled vessels to go into the principle Willamette Valley. Those locks are currently closed.Native American legends showed that the falls were set there by an incredible god so their kin would have fish to eat all winter. Numerous neighborhood clans assembled towns in the region in view of the wealth of salmon that could just pass the falls at certain water levels.
