Vicksburg National Military Park protects the site of the American Civil War Battle of Vicksburg, pursued from March 29 to July 4, 1863. The recreation center, situated in Vicksburg, Mississippi, flanking the Mississippi River, additionally recognizes the more noteworthy Vicksburg Campaign which hinted at the fight. Remade fortifications and trenches summon recollections of the 47-day attack that finished in the surrender of the city. Triumph here and at Port Hudson, more remote south in Louisiana, gave the Union control of the Mississippi River.
