Vicksburg National Military Park

Vicksburg National Military Park protects the site of the American Civil War Battle of Vicksburg, pursued from March 29 to July 4, 1863. The recreation center, situated in Vicksburg, Mississippi, flanking the Mississippi River, additionally recognizes the more noteworthy Vicksburg Campaign which hinted at the fight. Remade fortifications and trenches summon recollections of the 47-day attack that finished in the surrender of the city. Triumph here and at Port Hudson, more remote south in Louisiana, gave the Union control of the Mississippi River.

The recreation center incorporates 1,325 memorable landmarks and markers, 20 miles 32 km of noteworthy trenches and earthworks, a 16-mile 26 km visit street, a 12.5-mile 20.1 km strolling trail, two before the war homes, 144 emplaced guns, the reestablished gunboat USS Cairo sunk on December 12, 1862, on the Yazoo River, and the Grant's Canal site, where the Union Army endeavored to construct a waterway to give their boats a chance to sidestep Confederate mounted guns discharge.
