Tupelo National Battlefield
About Tupelo National Battlefield
It is also called the Battle of Harrisburg, battled from July 14 to 15, 1864, close Tupelo, Mississippi. The Union triumph over Confederate powers in upper east Mississippi guaranteed the wellbeing of Sherman's supply lines amid the Atlanta Campaign. The Tupelo National Battlefield was built up as "Tupelo Battlefield Site" on February 21, 1929. The site was exchanged from the United States War Department to the National Park Service on August 10, 1933, redesignated, and limit changed on August 10, 1961. In 1936, the Tupelo-Gainesville Tornado pulverized the solid landmark to the fight, tearing it out of the ground and shattering it.
