The Tree that Owns Itself
About The Tree that Owns Itself
In a calm local location in Athens, Georgia, stands a fine white oak tree that claims itself. The tree sits on the land that was once possessed by Colonel William H. Jackson, a teacher at the University of Georgia. His affection for this tree was to such an extent that he deeded it 8 feet of land from every one of its sides in interminability; no endeavor has ever been made to move the tree or to agree to Colonel Jackson's offbeat want.
The first tree was felled by a windstorm in 1942, however supplanted with a sapling from one of its oak seeds in 1946. Giver George Foster Peabody paid for a walled in area for the tree. Guests who appreciate verifiable peculiarities should drive down the cobblestone lanes for a glance at the world's just tree to claim itself.
