The Presbytere
About The Presbytere
The Presbytere is a compositionally essential working in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. It stands to confront Jackson Square, neighboring the St. Louis Cathedral. Worked in 1791 as a coordinating structure for the Cabildo, which flanks the house of prayer on the opposite side, it is one of the country's best cases of formal pioneer Spanish engineering with numerous neo-Renaissance elements.
It was assigned a National Historic Landmark in 1970 and is currently a property of the Louisiana State Museum. The Presbytère is situated on the northwest side of Jackson Square, between the church building and St. Ann Street. It is a two-story block building, initially worked with a level rooftop that had a balustrade beat by urns. Its ground floor has a nine-straight open arcade of curved curves, with pilastered corners.
