The Ohio and Erie Canalway
About The Ohio and Erie Canalway
Developed in the mid nineteenth century, the Ohio and Erie Canal conveyed cargo movement over the province of Ohio for more than 40 years until the appearance of the railroad. It later filled in as a water hotspot for different enterprises and towns. Today, the waterway is overseen by the National Park Service and utilized by the general population for different recreational purposes, for example, birding, climbing, bicycling, or horseback riding.
A few sections of the channel, for example, the Ohio and Erie Canal Historic District, are assigned as exceptional National Heritage Areas, safeguarding the legacy of the waterway and enhancing the personal satisfaction of occupants in the regions of Northeastern Ohio.
