The Elihu B. Washburne House
About The Elihu B. Washburne House
Situated at 908 Third Street in Galena, the Elihu B. Washburne House was worked in 1845 for neighborhood lawmaker Elihu Benjamin Washburne, and it stands today as an extraordinary case of the compositional Greek-Revival style. The house has a rich history of occupation by celebrated individuals, including Elihu Washburne, a political counsel to Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Concede and the diplomat to France in the mid-1800s.
The sanctuary like front patio and transcending mainstays of the house mirror the qualities of the Greek-Revival style, which was a conventional building style amid that period, and the house fills in as an incredible case of design for history buffs and compositional enthusiasts. Recorded on the National Register of Historic Places, the house is overseen by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency and is available to people in general to investigate on independently directed or sorted out visits.
