About Story City Carousel
It is one of the unique carousels made up of 100 wooden antique carousels still functioning today. lt was built in 1913 by Herschell- Spillman of North Tonawanda, New York.
The Rooster is one of the rarest carousel animals. The Carousel originally cost the Greater Community Congress knew as the Greater Chamber Connection $1,200 in 1938.
That money was raised the first weekend it was open July 4th, 1938.
A 1913 hand carved wooden carousel which operates from May-September in the picturesque Story City North Park.
This small central Iowa community purchased it in 1938 and rescued it from deterioration by completely restoring it in 1982.
The carousel celebrated a 100th birthday in 2013. It is on the National Register of Historic Places.
