Stone Mountain Park
About Stone Mountain Park
A standout amongst the most famous spots to visit close Atlanta is Stone Mountain Park, 16 miles east of the downtown area in DeKalb County. At its middle is Stone Mountain, a 863-foot-high mass of uncovered rock with an outline of five miles. On the east flank of the slope is a help of the three Confederate pioneers, President Jefferson Davis and his two officers, Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee, slashed from the stone in the vicinity of 1923 and 1970.But there is significantly more to do here than see this dedication to Confederate officers, who fell in the Civil War. You can move to the highest point of the slope or rise by link auto, and around it runs a 1940s train on a five-mile circuit through the recreation center. There are perseverance courses of suspended rope strolls and extensions through the treetops, a petting ranch for little kids, a land/lake visit on a 1940s Army DUKW that incorporates some neighborhood history, a reestablished before the war estate, and a gallery with Native American curios and shows.
