The St. Louis Cathedral is one of New Orleans' most remarkable milestones. Scarcely any urban areas on the planet are so recognized by a working as is New Orleans. The Cathedral of St. Louis got numerous prominent guests all through its history. In 1840, Andrew Jackson went to New Orleans, the scene of his annihilation of the British in 1815 at the Battle of New Orleans.
A service was held at the Cathedral in his respect. A statue of Jackson was raised in the Place d'Armes, now called Jackson Square.Taylor was a saint of the Mexican War and was cheered by the general population of New Orleans. The square before the congregation was renamed in his respect. The Cathedral was lifted to the status of Basilica following the pope's visit.
