About Slave Haven Underground Railroad Museum

Situated on North Second Street in Memphis, the Slave Haven Underground Railroad Museum is a notable house exhibition hall. Known as the Burkle Estate, the house was worked in 1849 by Jacob Burkle, a German outsider who was a stockyard proprietor and a solid supporter of the abolitionist servitude development. At one time, Memphis was the biggest slave-exchanging city in Tennessee. Starting around 1855, this unassuming prior to the war home, situated close to the banks of the Mississippi River, filled in as a place of refuge for slaves who could load up pontoons heading towards the Northern states. The house highlights relics, trap entryways, and concealed sections.
