About Seneca
Seneca is a city in Oconee County, South Carolina SC, USA. It is the vital city of the Seneca Micropolitan Statistical Area, a MSA which incorporates all of Oconee County and which is additionally incorporated into the more noteworthy Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson, South Carolina Combined Statistical Area. Seneca was named for the close-by Cherokee town of Isunigu, referred to the English as "Seneca Town".
Seneca was established as Seneca City and named for a close-by Native American town and the Seneca River. The town was situated at the crossing point of the Blue Ridge Railroad and the recently fabricated Atlanta and Charlotte Air Line Railroad. The two lines are currently part of the Norfolk Southern Railway. A. W. Thompson and J. J. Norton, who were finding engineers for the Air Line Railroad, bought the land from Col. Dark colored of Anderson, South Carolina.
