Schenectady County Public Library
About Schenectady County Public Library
The Schenectady County Public Library was established as a city library in 1894, with a Carnegie library building opening in 1903. SCPL turned into a region library in 1949, and moved to the present office in 1969. As the focal library of the Mohawk Valley Library System, we serve more than 280,000 occupants of Schenectady, Fulton, Montgomery and Schoharie Counties. Our Schenectady Reference accumulation incorporates books on the historical backdrop of GE and ALCO, memoirs of Steinmetz and other outstanding occupants, secondary school yearbooks and city and area authoritative procedures. Our news sections contain historical articles dating to the 1950s, and also vital neighborhood businesses and social conditions in the district.
