Saint Louis Cemetery
About Saint Louis Cemetery
Saint Louis Cemetery is the name of three Roman Catholic burial grounds in New Orleans, Louisiana. The vast majority of the graves are over the ground vaults built in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 is the most seasoned and generally well known. It was opened in 1789, supplanting the city's more seasoned St. Dwindle Cemetery as the primary graveyard when the city was updated after a fire in 1788.
It is 8 obstructs from the Mississippi River, on the north side of Basin Street, one square past the inland outskirt of the French Quarter. It fringes the Iberville lodging venture. It has been in constant use since its establishment. The not-for-profit gather Save Our Cemeteries and business organizations offer visits for a fee.
