Sagamore Hill
About Sagamore Hill
Situated around 25 miles from Manhattan on the North Shore of Long Island, Sagamore Hill was the home of Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President of the United States, from 1885 until 1919.
He called it his Summer White House and it was extravagant for now is the ideal time, with 23 rooms and a restroom with a then-uncommon porcelain tub. Amid the years he was the president, Roosevelt facilitated numerous outside dignitaries at Sagamore Hill.
The house was the scene of the significant peace talks that arranged the conclusion to the Russo-Japanese War. Roosevelt passed on at Sagamore Hill in 1919 and was covered at Youngs Memorial Cemetery adjacent. Today, Sagamore Hill is a National Historic Site and incorporates the Theodore Roosevelt Museum.
