Robert E. Lee Memorial Bridge
About Robert E. Lee Memorial Bridge
The Robert E. Lee Memorial Bridge in Richmond, Virginia conveys U.S. Highway 1 and U.S. Highway 301 over the James River at the Fall Line. The city obtained the first scaffold from Richmond Bridge Corp in 1933, and it was named the James River Bridge yet was later renamed for the Confederate general. It was initially built as a four path toll office and opened in 1934. In the 1980s, a substitution structure was fabricated including a generous realignment of the approach roadways at the south end. Work was finished in 1989. It is sans toll and incorporates 3 paths in either heading. An entrance ramp and an exit ramp for South second Street associates with the scaffold over the north shore of the James River.
