About Pemaquid Point Light
The Pemaquid Point Light is a noteworthy U.S. beacon situated in Bristol, Lincoln County, Maine, at the tip of the Pemaquid Neck.The beacon was appointed in 1827 by President John Quincy Adams and constructed that year. In view of poor workmanship salt water was utilized as a part of the mortar blend, the beacon started to disintegrate and was supplanted in 1835. The second contract for the development stipulated that lone crisp water be utilized. Attendant Isaac Dunham regulated the development and wrote in a letter to the US Lighthouse Establishment that the assention was maintained and the work went well.The unique light was an Argand-Lewis explanatory reflector, lit with candles and with a perceivability of 2 miles 3.2 km. Augustin Fresnel concocted a prevalent method for centering light in the mid 1850s and most beacons in the US were changed over to the Fresnel Lens, with Pemaquid Point getting a fourth request Fresnel in 1856. The focal point is one of just six Fresnel focal points still in benefit in Maine. The guardian's home was worked in 1857.
