Olustee Battlefield State Park
About Olustee Battlefield State Park
This spot memorializes the site of Florida's biggest Civil War fight, which happened on February 20, 1864. In excess of 10,000 mounted force, infantry, and gunnery troops battled a five-hour fight in a pine timberland close Olustee. Three U.S. Shaded Troops participated in the fight, including the now well known 54th Massachusetts.
The fight finished with 2,807 losses and the withdraw of Union troops to Jacksonville until the war's end only 14 months later. In 1912, when numerous living Civil War veterans still went to reunions, the war zone turned into the state's first notable site.
Olustee Battlefield has a guest focus with authentic data and relics. A re-establishment is held each February and scenes for Civil War motion pictures, including the 1989 motion picture Glory, have been shot amid the re-authorizations. Guests can appreciate a feast at the cookout territory or go out for a stroll along a mile-long trail that has enlightening signs depicting the occasions of the fight.
