College of Notre Dame's Main Administration Building known as the Main Building or the "Brilliant Dome" houses different regulatory workplaces, including the Office of the President. One of the building stands the Golden Dome, the most conspicuous historic point of the University. the building is recorded on the national enroll of noteworthy places.
The first primary building was begun on August 28, 1843, soon after the draftsman, Mr. Marsile touched base on grounds on the 24th. It was finished by the fall of 1844. It was a block building, 4 1/2 story high with a little dome not yet a vault with a chime in it, in the French style.
Construction of the second Main Building, which supplanted the initiative, started in 1864 and was finished in 1865. It was to be 160 feet long, 80 feet wide, and 90 feet high; it was six stories high and had a vault at the best. The modeler was Mr. Thomas from Chicago, and a large portion of the laborers who assembled it were siblings of the Congregation of Holy Cross. Classes were instructed on the third floor, while the fourth and fifth floors were quarters.
