Norwich

Norwich is a city in New London County, Connecticut, United States. Three streams, the Yantic, the Shetucket, and the Quinebaug, stream into the city and shape its harbor, from which the Thames River streams south to Long Island Sound.

Norwichtown was established in 1659, by pilgrims from Old Saybrook drove by Major John Mason and Reverend James Fitch. They obtained the land "nine miles square" that would progress toward becoming Norwich from the neighborhood Native Mohegan Sachem Uncas. In 1668, a wharf was built up at Yantic Cove. Settlement was principally in the five km zone around the Norwichtown Green.
