About North Church
The North Church of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, United States, is a noteworthy Congregational church situated in Market Square. Sited specifically opposite the Portsmouth Athenæum, it includes an Italianate building and a steeple unmistakable from a large portion of the city, the Piscataqua River, and groups on its western bank in Maine.
Its tower has been alluded to as Portsmouth's "milestone of record". The congregation is home to Portsmouth's United Church of Christ congregation. The first church worked in Portsmouth was built in 1657 close to a milldam. Another congregation building was based on a side of a similar 50-section of land 0.20 km² glebe at the edge of Congress Street and Pleasant Street about fifty years after the fact.
An extensive clock and chime were included 1749. The congregation kept broad records of sanctifications, relational unions, and funerals of members. Prominent individuals included William Whipple, John Langdon, and Daniel Webster. President George Washington went to an administration amid his visit to New Hampshire in 1789.
