About North Carolina Zoo
Found only south of Asheboro, the North Carolina Zoo is situated on a 2,200-section of land tract of land in the Uwharrie Mountains. Around 500 sections of land of this property have been produced into the biggest "regular territory" zoo in the United States. You won't discover confines made of steel and cement here. Our creatures are given walled in areas that copy their characteristic territories to incorporate trees, lakes, rocks, grass and soil.
The North Carolina Zoo developed from a thought started by the Raleigh Jaycees in 1967. Through a progression of raising money occasions - including no less than one expert football game-the site was chosen and secured to be near the focal point of the state. We are 75 miles west of Raleigh, 25 miles south of Greensboro and 75 miles upper east of Charlotte.
