Mount Katahdin is the most astounding mountain in the U.S. province of Maine at 5,267 feet 1,605 m. Named Katahdin by the Penobscot Indians, which signifies "The Greatest Mountain" the mountain is situated inside Northeast Piscataquis, Piscataquis County, and is the centerpiece of Baxter State Park. It is a lofty, tall mountain framed from a rock interruption weathered to the surface. The greenery on the mountain are ordinary of those found in northern New England.Katahdin was known to the Native Americans in the locale, and was known to Europeans in any event since 1689. The region around the pinnacle was secured by Governor Percival Baxter beginning in the 1930s. Katahdin is the northern end of the Appalachian Trail, and is situated close to an extend known as the Hundred-Mile Wilderness.
