The first principle entrance is through the patio on the east front. The roof of this patio consolidates a breeze plate associated with a climate vane, demonstrating the heading of the breeze. An expansive clock look on the outer east-bound divider has just a hour hand since Jefferson thought this was sufficiently exact for slaves. The clock mirrors the time appeared on the "Incomparable Clock", composed by Jefferson, in the passage lobby.
