Milwaukee Pierhead Light
About Milwaukee Pierhead Light
A speedy look through photographs of Milwaukee on Instagram will uncover a portion of the city's most famous photograph opps. Not very many would be amazed to see the Milwaukee Art Museum, the blue scope of Lake Michigan, or the delightfully mushy Bronze Fonz on that rundown, but at the same time there's an unmistakable red beacon that nearby picture takers love to catch. Set up in 1872, the Milwaukee Pierhead Light is a sister light to the Kenosha North Pier Light. It is found where the Milwaukee River streams out into Lake Michigan, denoting the mouth of the waterway to voyaging ships. The beacon had a manager until 1926, when the Milwaukee Breakwater Lighthouse was worked over the harbor. Today, the Pierhead Light is sun oriented controlled and worked naturally.
