Malheur National Forest

The Malheur National Forest is a National Forest in the U.S. territory of Oregon. It contains in excess of 1.4 million sections of land in the Blue Mountains of eastern Oregon. The woods comprises of high desert prairies, sage, juniper, pine, fir, and other tree species. Heights shift from around 4,000 feet to the 9,038-foot pinnacle of Strawberry Mountain. The Strawberry Mountains stretch out east to west through the focal point of the backwoods. U.S. Highway 395 runs south to north through the timberland, while U.S. Highway 26 runs east to west.

The woods was built up by President Theodore Roosevelt on June 13, 1908, and is named after the Malheur River, from the French, signifying "setback". It is overseen by the United States Forest Service for timber extraction, dairy cattle munching, gold mining and wild utilize. A 1993 Forest Service ponder assessed that the degree of old development in the backwoods was 312,000 sections of land. There are three officer locale in the woodland, with workplaces in John Day, Prairie City, and Hines.
