Malbis Memorial Church
About Malbis Memorial Church
Malbis Memorial Church is a Greek Orthodox Church situated in Malbis, Baldwin County, Alabama. In spite of the fact that not a piece of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, it is one of just approximately six Greek Orthodox houses of worship in the province of Alabama. It is known for its complex and broad mosaics and sketches. The historical backdrop of the congregation at Malbis starts with the establishment of Malbis Plantation by Jason Malbis, a Greek migrant. Conceived Antonios Markopoulos in the settlement of Doumena, he spent the principal half of his life in a religious community.
Malbis Memorial Church was planned by the compositional firm of Frederick C. Woods and Associates in Mobile. Worked of block, limestone, and marble, its arrangement was enlivened by the Church of Ayia Paraskevi in Athens. The structure is cruciform in design. Domed towers flank the western passage exterior, which includes a stone arcade. This patio contains three arrangements of passageway entryways bested by angled mosaics of Theotokos, Jesus, and Saint Paul. The arcade is surmounted by curved windows and mosaic boards delineating Saints John, Luke, Mark, and Matthew. Tourists come here from all over the world with their family and friends.
