The Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site is a United States National Historic Landmark in Richmond, Virginia. The site was assigned a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1975. The National Historic Site was set up in 1978 to recount the narrative of the life and work of Maggie L. Walker , the main lady to fill in as leader of a bank in the United States. Maggie Walker, the little girl of a slave, was a spearheading African-American agent and social liberties dissident. She was a persuasive individual from the NAACP, and is credited with discovered the primary African-American female-possessed bank, St. Luke's Penny Bank , in 1902. She was additionally engaged with nearby charitable endeavors, supporting schools for instruction African-American young ladies in Richmond.
