Linn Cove Viaduct
About Linn Cove Viaduct
Viaducts are raised roadway segments conveying the street high above dry gorges or over the shoulders of mountains where broad and tastefully unpleasing fill areas would somehow or another be required. The most punctual of these is the Rocky Mountain Viaduct, built in 1937, on the northern segment of the expressway at milepost 35. This steel brace structure is bolstered by curved stone docks and stone-confronted projections, and is the main viaduct to highlight this treatment. Most other expressway viaducts are steel brace structures bolstered by fortified cement or steel docks. As the last bit of the Parkway to be finished, the Linn Cove Viaduct was a pinnacle of Parkway designing and natural assurance. Finished in 1983 at a cost of nearly $10 million, the Linn Cove Viaduct is 1,243 feet long and contains 153 sections measuring 50 tons each.
