La Purisima Mission
About La Purisima Mission
Mission La Purisima Concepción is a Spanish mission in Lompoc, California. It was set up on December 8, 1787 the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, subsequently the mission's name by the Franciscan request. The first mission complex south of Lompoc was crushed by a seismic tremor in 1812, and the mission was reconstructed at its present site a few miles toward the northwest.
The mission is a piece of the bigger La Purísima Mission State Historic Park, some portion of the California State Parks framework, and alongside Mission San Francisco de Solano is one of just two of the Spanish missions in California that is never again under the control of the Catholic Church. It is as of now the main case in California of an entire Spanish Catholic mission complex and was assigned a National Historic Landmark in 1970.
