About Key West lighthouse
The Key West lighthouse is situated in Key West, Florida. The principal Key West lighthouse was a 65-foot 20 m tower finished in 1825. The principal attendant, Michael Mabrity, kicked the bucket in 1832, and his dowager, Barbara, turned into the lighthouse guardian, serving for a long time. The Great Havana Hurricane of 1846 devastated the lighthouse; the USS Morris, which was destroyed amid the tempest, announced "a white sand shoreline covers the spot where Key West Lighthouse stood". Barbara Mabrity survived, yet fourteen individuals who had looked for asylum in the lighthouse tower kicked the bucket, including seven individuals from her family.
As the two lighthouses serving Key West had been obliterated in the 1846 sea tempest, a ship, the Honey, was procured and furnished as a lightship to fill in as the Sand Key Light until the point that new lighthouses could be constructed. Because of endeavors to rearrange the Lighthouse Board, Congress was ease back to proper assets for the new lighthouses.
After the Coast Guard decommissioned the Key West Light in 1969, it was swung over to Monroe County, which thus rented it to the Key West Arts and Historical Society. The general public works the lighthouse and its related structures as the Key West Light House and Keeper's Quarters Museum. In plain view at the historical center is the primary request Fresnel focal point from the Sombrero Key lighthouse.
