Jones Point Lighthouse
About Jones Point Lighthouse
The Jones Point Lighthouse filled in as an imperative navigational guide for those going along the Potomac River amid the period from 1856-1926 when the beacon was in task. The stream was known for its moving submerged shores that undermined transports on their approach to Alexandria. Today, it is the main American riverine beacon as yet remaining in the Chesapeake Bay.
The beacon was decommissioned in 1926 and made into an exhibition hall in 1964 after the foundation of Jones Point Park. Long before the recreation center was built up, the beautiful shoreline around the beacon was a famous spot among Alexandrians for swimming, angling, and getting a charge out of a relaxed end of the week.
