About Johnson Victrola Museum

The focal point of this exhibition hall is Eldridge Reeves Johnson, a Delaware local who in 1901 established Victor Talking Machine Company. On a demand by circle record and gramophone designer Emile Berliner, Johnson created a spring engine that permitted plate records to play at a persistent speed without being turned by hand.
This was the introduction of the advanced turn table. The organization went ahead to offer a huge number of Victrolas over the better piece of three decades previously Johnson resigned in 1927. After two years, in 1929, Victor was sold to RCA. Almost 60 years after the fact, in 1985, Johnson was after death granted a Grammy Award for his advancement. That honor is currently in plain view at Johnson Victrola Museum.
