James A. Garfield Monument
About James A. Garfield Monument
Resting in the Lake View Cemetery on Euclid Avenue, the James A. Garfield Monument respects James A. Garfield, the twentieth President of the United States, and fills in as his resting place. Planned by modeler George Keller and built of Berea Sandstone, the landmark stands 180 feet tall and contains components of Romanesque, Gothic, and Byzantine styles of design, with five earthenware boards by Casper Bubel.
Marble, rock, and gold mosaics with recolored glass windows speaking to the first 13 provinces and War and Peace wonderfully enliven the elaborate Memorial Hall. A statue of the President etched by Alexander Doyle remains on the principle floor of the dedication. Appreciate stunning perspectives of Lake Erie from the upper open air gallery, a view that enlivened the burial ground's name.
