About House Mountain
House Mountain is a mountain situated in Corryton, Tennessee, United States, around 8 miles 13 km upper east of Knoxville. Rising to a rise of 2,064 feet 629 m above ocean level, House Mountain is the most elevated point in Knox County. The House Mountain State Natural Area—assigned in 1987—comprises of 525 sections of land 2.12 km2, for the most part on the south side of the mountain. House Mountain is known for its enormous sandstone rocks, its wide assortment of winged animal and vegetation, and for the perspectives from its two pinnacles.
On a sunny morning, the Great Smoky Mountains and the upper Unaka Range are obvious toward the south and east, the Cumberland Plateau is unmistakable toward the west, and Powell Mountain and Clinch Mountain are noticeable toward the north and upper east. The inception of the mountain's name is obscure, however a nearby legend proposes early pilgrims thought the mountain was formed like the top of a house. House Mountain ascends from an expansive plain in eastern Knox County, around 3 miles 4.8 km southwest of the southern end of Clinch Mountain and instantly north of McAnnally Ridge.
House, McAnnally, and Clinch are all piece of the Appalachian Ridge-and-Valley Province, which comprises of a progression of restricted, prolong edges extending in an upper east to-southwest bearing between the primary Appalachian peak toward the east and the Cumberland Plateau toward the west. These edges are commonly flanked by rich waterway valleys that are a piece of the upper Tennessee River watershed.
