About Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve

Ice sheet Bay National Park and Preserve is in the Alaska beg west of Juneau. President Calvin Coolidge announced the territory around Glacier Bay a national landmark under the Antiquities Act on February 25, 1925. Consequent to an extension of the landmark by President Jimmy Carter in 1978, the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act ANILCA developed the national landmark by 523,000 sections of land 2116.5 km2 on December 2, 1980 and in the process made Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, with 57,000 extra sections of land 230.7 km2 of open land assigned as national safeguard to the prompt northwest of the recreation center so as to ensure a segment of the Alsek River and related fish and natural life territories while permitting sport chasing.

Icy mass Bay turned out to be a piece of a binational UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, was recorded as a Biosphere Reserve in 1986 and in 1994 embraced a commitment to work with Hoonah and Yakutat Tlingit Native American associations in the administration of the ensured territory.
