About Francis Land House
The Francis Land House is a memorable block house in situated in Virginia Beach, Virginia. It was the estate home of the conspicuous Land family, an establishing group of Princess Anne County, Virginia. Land family history on the site spread over the 1630s to the 1850s. The house went through six guys named Francis Land and after that the last Francis' little girls previously being sold to another family. Slaves were first recorded on the site in 1694, with importation of new slaves up to the 1730s. In the mid-eighteenth century the estate had upwards of 20 slaves.
The house's outside is Georgian style and within highlights period rooms outfitted with Federal style collectibles and proliferations with heart of pine floors. The outside dividers are twofold profundity Flemish security brickwork. The manicured grounds incorporate herb, vegetable, flax, formal, and "delight" gardens, and in addition a history park which incorporates a built 1 miles nature trail in a lush wetland with interpretive sign display.
The house was recorded in the Virginia Landmarks Register and the US National Register of Historic Places in 1975. While the house has a plaque expressing it was put on the National Register of Historic Landmarks in 1975, it doesn't show up on the official National Park Service posting of National Historic Landmarks for Virginia.
