Fort William and Mary
About Fort William and Mary
Fort William and Mary was a pilgrim fortification in Britain's overall arrangement of barriers, kept an eye on by warriors of the Province of New Hampshire who revealed straightforwardly to the regal senator. The fortification, initially known as "The Castle", was arranged on the island of New Castle, New Hampshire, at the mouth of the Piscataqua River estuary.
It was renamed Fort William and Mary around 1692, after the promotion of the rulers William III and Mary II to the British throne. It was caught by Patriot powers, recovered, and later relinquished by the British in the Revolutionary War. The fortress was renamed Fort Constitution in 1808 after revamping. The post was further revamped and extended through 1899 and served effectively through World War II.
