About Fort Wayne
Fort Wayne, Detroit's third fortress, is named after General Anthony Wayne, whose annihilation of the British at the Fallen Timbers in 1796 brought about the United States control of the Northwest Territories. In 1840, the land at the purpose of the Detroit River nearest to British Canada was being studied by the United States Army for another cannons post. A five point star stronghold was arranged keeping in mind the end goal to accomplish the ability of terminating their most exceptional gun onto the Canadian shore, and in addition focusing on ships cruising the Detroit River.Completed in 1849, the stronghold has served the city of Detroit through numerous periods, yet has never observed a shot discharged in battle.
