Fort Massachusetts
About Fort Massachusetts
Fortification Massachusetts is a post on West Ship Island along the Mississippi Gulf Coast of the United States. It was fabricated after the War of 1812, with block dividers amid 1859-1866, and stayed being used until 1903. Right now, it is a chronicled vacation destination inside the Gulf Islands National Seashore. The fortification is situated about most of the way along the north shore of West Ship Island, close to a pontoon dock.
Following the War of 1812, the United States War Department started making arrangements for the development of a broad arrangement of brick work strongholds for waterfront protection. As a result of Ship Island's normal profound water harbor and its area along a delivery course, Ship Island was essential to the barrier of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. The island was proclaimed a United States military reservation in 1847, and after nine years Congress approved development of a stronghold.
