Florida Pioneer Museum
About Florida Pioneer Museum
It is a memorable site in Florida City, Florida, United States. It was established in 1962 with the gift of Indian antiquities by Dr. Herbert S. Zim and apparatuses by a gathering of community disapproved of ladies. On August 14, 1973, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The Museum's building is situated in the old Homestead Florida East Coast Railroad station operator's home that was worked in 1904. The house was moved to the present area in the mid-1960s to fill in as a gallery about the neighborhood.
The land the building sits on was given by Henry and Jacqueline Brooker. Henry was an early pilgrim, homesteading west of the present city of Florida City in 1907. His better half, Jacqueline, was the girl of Bryan H. Edwards, an early chairman of Florida City. The warehouse working behind the historical center was spared by Jack Levy and other nearby history buffs as the bulldozers were tearing it down where it was initially situated on N. Flagler Ave. in Homestead. The FEC and the City of Homestead had gotten into a contention over grounds support so the FEC continued to crush the building.
It was then moved to its present site in Florida City in 1976, ashore gave by the Torcise family. The building was leveled to the stage by Hurricane Andrew in 1992, and the Museum supported in the remaking of the working by providing duplicates of the first illustrations from the Florida East Coast Railway. The Depot isn't a piece of the Museum; it is possessed by the City of Florida City.
