Christ Church

Christ Church is a congregation situated at 118 North Washington Street in Alexandria, Virginia. Developed as the principle church in the Church of England's Fairfax Parish, the building was outlined by Col. James Wren, a relative of Sir Christopher Wren. To fund development of the congregation, the Fairfax Vestry raised 31,186 pounds of Oronoco tobacco from parishioners. Development started in 1765, under the heading of James Parsons.

Following four years, the congregation was as yet incomplete. The vestry alleviated Mr. Parsons of his obligations as administrator of the development. John Carlyle acknowledged the position and gave the keys of the finished working over to the vestry in February 1773. At first the seats were box seats and a two-level platform was arranged on the north side of the asylum.

There was no textual style in light of the fact that until after the Civil War, weddings, submersions, and the churching of ladies occurred at home. In the mid-nineteenth century, stoves were returned in the of the congregation and the case seats were changed over to the slips that are being used today. Amid a redesign soon thereafter, the first podium was supplanted by the present wine-glass platform.
