About Carriage Town Historic District
The Carriage Town Historic District is a notable zone in downtown Flint. Local Americans stayed outdoors around there before European pilgrims started arriving. It is one the popular historical place in Flint city. The primary pilgrim was Jacob Smith: he made his home around there in 1819. The name originates from the waya that the Durant-Dort Carriage Company turned into the biggest maker of stallion attracted carriages the world: in 1905 Flint was known as the "Vehicle City."
A large number of the laborers for this organization lived in this area. In 1908, Durant went ahead to establish the General Motors Corporation.
