Carlyle House

Directly over the road from Alexandria's City Hall in the core of Old Town lies a rich, nearly tall tale like house that John Carlyle worked for his stunning lady of the hour Sarah Fairfax in 1793. He was a well off British vendor, she was from a noticeable pioneer Virginia family, and their home turned into the focal point of Alexandria's political and social life.

Compositionally one of a kind, Carlyle House is the main eighteenth century house in Alexandria made of stone. The delightfully reestablished house offers an energizing viewpoint in transit of life in Alexandria just before the Revolution. The beautiful garden is carefully kept up and includes similar plants that would have been available amid the seasons of the Carlyles.
